MEET: Rebecca Garrett-Brown

Rebecca grew up in the Philadelphia area and spent 3 years in the British West Indies on the island of Antigua as a young child. She graduated with her BSN from Georgetown University and moved to San Diego in 1986. She worked as a staff nurse on labor and delivery at UCSD before completing her MSN at UCSF in 1991. She was a staff CNM at Naval Medical Center in San Diego for 20 years before returning to UC San Diego Health in 2011.
Rebecca is married to Arthur S. Brown, an attorney in private practice, specializing in Estate Planning. They have one son, Alexander Brown who is a senior in high school. They live in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, just north of San Diego. Rebecca has always enjoyed the political process. She served on the government affairs committee in the California Nurse's Association in the late 80's, has been chapter chair for the San Diego ACNM affiliate, has served as president for the CNMA and is currently serving as one of the Southern California Reps for CNMA. Rebecca enjoys walking, cycling, swimming and yoga. She loves to travel and dabble in photography. She enjoys teaching the medical students about how to do a new Ob visit, precepts student nurse-midwives and works closely with the Ob interns and residents at UC San Diego Health at Jacob's Medical Center in La Jolla. She also works one day a week in the outpatient UC San Diego Health clinics. Rebecca is also very knowledgeable about complimentary health care and feels it is very important for people to take time out of their busy lives and participate in self care. She especially enjoys acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, healing touch and going to day spas, especially Glen Ivy in Corona, CA.
